The Society wishes to thank all those individuals and local businesses that have helped to enrich our High Street each year, by their generous donations supporting our flower baskets and wooden planters.

Each year, the many baskets and planters must be repaired, replanted, installed and watered which can take considerable effort and costs. The final results, as illustrated in these two photographs, show a stunning transformation of our High Street.

With your continued support, we hope to once again be able to bring colour back to our High Street this summer.  All donations welcome!

ENRICHING OUR HIGH STREET!

There are some 13 flower boxes and nearly 100 hanging baskets needing to be planted up and cared for each season!

ABOUT US

The Society was founded in 1815, in the Scottish Borders town of Jedburgh.  Its' aims are to promote horticultural excellence and encourages the growing of fine examples of fruit, vegetables and flowers, as well as sewing, and baking, through 'friendly' competition.  We try to encourage young gardeners by holding a pot plant competition where we supply pot plants for every primary school child early in the year and the children grow them on and bring them to the local Flower Show in September.

The Flower Show in the first week of September incorporates not only flowers but fruit, vegetables, handicrafts, baking, preserves, school exhibits, woodcraft

and photography and involves the whole community of all ages.  We also hold a Best Garden Competition which is very competitive and the winner is presented with a trophy at the Flower Show.

Since 2015, our Bi-Centenary year, the Society has managed and maintained over 80 hanging baskets and numerous flower boxes in the town centre, which has been a great success and has contributed strongly to the 2018 & 2019 Floral Gateway Awards for best town in the Scottish Borders.  Jedburgh's High Street has also been judged to be one of Scotland's most beautiful in 2018 by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful and national agency Scotland's Towns Partnership.

In 2020-22, the unfortunate decision was made to cancel the Flower Shows and High Street flower displays, due to the pandemic.   The flower boxes and baskets have now returned in 2023 & 2024 and we also held our Garden Competition again last summer.  We hope with enough support we can see the return of the Flower Show in the near future.

The Society is supported by the work of many volunteers, proceeds from the Flower Show and public donations, which the Society much appreciates.
